I received "God Gave Us You" by Lisa Tawn Bergren to review from WaterBrook Press through the Blogging for Books program.

We own a few of the "God Gave Us" book, and we love everyone of them! These books are great tools to teach your child that God made them special no matter what. I love our new "God Gave Us You" book because it is small enough to take along with us and read anytime. The art by Laura J. Bryant is beautiful, as always! My daughter loves the pictures of the polar bears. "God Gave Us You" is an easy-to-understand book that teaches kids that are each treasured gifts from the Lord.

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone I know with kids! This would be a great book for new parents!

Parenting Questions! Help!

I keep thinking I'm going to get back into the swing of things with So Mommy, but things keep "happening" and it keeps getting pushed to the back! I'm hoping to start writing my reviews after the kids go to bed so that it will be easier to have them posted for you all! I have some good ones to share!

We have recently started "homeschool" with my 2 1/2 year old. Nothing major, just having her sit down with me for about 10 minutes 3 days a week. We work on various things like drawing shapes, cutting paper, reading - mostly things to help her learn to sit still for longer periods of time. It's giving me an idea of what homeschooling will really be like with 2 kids!

While I have you reading, I have some questions for you all! I'm in need of advice from you all!

(1) My 2 1/2 year old daughter is potty training. She rarely has accidents (#1), and has been in big girl panties for awhile now. Every now and then she has an accident, but no biggie. However, she still refuses to do #2 in the potty.
We've tried:
-Prizes - she has 3 large prizes she gets if she does it and could care less
-Putting her on the potty when we see her going - she stops and won't go at all and ends up constipated
-Apple juice (to make it easier) - she still stops if we site her on the potty
-Putting her potty chair in front of the t.v. to get her distracted while she goes - she gets too distracted

I'm out of ideas! She asks for a diaper to poop in, so I've resorted to putting a diaper on her and encouraging her to poop (in the diaper) in the bathroom. I'm hoping I'll eventually be able to get her to poop in the diaper on the toilet, then without the diaper, but who knows if that will work haha. Any ideas are appreciated!!

(2) My 2 1/2 year old is having nightmares. She has always been a very good sleeper until recently. She screams when you mention bedtime - terrified screams, not just crying. She finally told us that the animals come out when we close the door (sometimes they play soccer on her wall and sometimes it's football).
-She won't go to sleep with a nightlight or with the door open.
-She won't let us sleep in her room with her, she just wants us to sit at the end of her bed and sing "Jesus Loves Me" forever.
-I finally got her to lay with me on the couch and sleep (she goes to sleep in under 5 minutes) and then I go lay her down.
-We let her watch VeggieTales "Where's God when I'm Scared" and we assure her that her room is safe, but it hasn't seemed to help much.

Any ideas for getting rid of nightmares?

My Review

I have decided that I'm not really a romantic novel type person. The book was very well-written and enjoyable, but it just isn't my kind of book. The plot was a nice change from boy-meets-girl-gets-married. It definitely had a unique twist on the normal love story novels, which I liked. The first few chapters kept me reading, but the middle got a little slow for me. If you like romantic novels, you would probably enjoy this book...I'm just more of a mystery girl!

What if your child went missing?

A new technology has been developed, however, that allows parents to send out their own alert anytime their child goes missing.

SecuraChild is entirely free for parents and guardians to use. An account can be created for any child with a minimum of important identifying information including: height, weight, hair color, and eye color. A parent can include other meaningful information including medical conditions, unique and descriptive features as well as posting images, videos and other content that could be used to help find their missing child quickly. The site is fully encrypted and each account is protected to ensure the security of all information. Also, parents can choose exactly what details they want to save on the profile that they create.

If a parent’s son or daughter should ever go missing, the parent can quickly login to their account to provide basic details such as where the child was last seen, what the child was wearing, and where they may be going or ties to an area or community. SecuraChild is extremely easy (and free!) to sign up. I definitely recommend doing it! Like said above, if your child goes missing it may be hard to recall some important details. SecuraChild remembers them for you!

Can a necklace really help reflux?

Since having LB, I feel like my life has turned into a whirlwind of craziness! Do any of you ever feel that way? It seems like we're always going somewhere or doing something...and when I am home I'm trying to wash the ever-growing dishes and laundry. I have so many things I have been reviewing (including several books), and I have been wanting to share them all with you, but I haven't had any time to sit down and think (and I want you to be able to understand my reviews haha).

What I want to talk about today is laundry...I know, boring stuff! Seriously though, since LB was born my laundry pile is crazy! It is always a huge pile, and it's not just because she likes to be held. It's because she has reflux. And spits up. A ton! It's bad when you have to give a disclaimer before you let someone hold your child, but anytime someone wants to hold her I feel like I need to tell them she's probably going to cover them in spit up. And she almost always does. Having a reflux baby is no fun...the laundry is crazy, but a lot of times she just seems uncomfortable. She has been on Prilosec and Zantac, but neither seem to make her feel much better, and I just felt sorry for her...so I started looking for another solution.

Several moms suggested a Hazelwood necklace from Inspired By Finn. I know what you're thinking. How can a necklace help reflux? I thought the same thing, so I started reading about it. The Hazelwood actually soaks up the excess acid in the body. It can relieve many acid-related ailments such as acid reflux, ulcers, heartburn, and other acid-related ailments. I was very intrigued after reading about them, so I ordered one. The youth necklaces are about $30, which I thought was a great price if it would work. I waited impatiently to get it in, and she has been wearing it ever since. We're on month 2 now, and I have definitely noticed a difference! She doesn't spit up nearly as much! She does still spit up some, but everyone that was around her before the necklace can definitely see there is a difference. I have had so many people tell me how cute her necklace is, and when I go on to tell them what it does, they are always amazed! If you or your child has reflux problems, I would definitely recommend this necklace!

Paradise Valley

I recently received "Paradise Valley" by Dale Cramer from Bethany House Publishing. While I received the book free, the opinions below are my own.

Summary from CBD.com:

An Amish settlement in Ohio has run afoul of a law requiring their children to attend public school. Caleb Bender and his neighbors are arrested for neglect, with the state ordering the children be placed in an institution. Among them are Caleb's teenage daughter, Rachel, and the boy she has her eye on, Jake Weaver. Romance blooms between the two when Rachel helps Jake escape the children's home.

Searching for a place to relocate his family where no such laws apply, Caleb learns there's inexpensive land for sale in Mexico, a place called Paradise Valley. Despite rumors of instability in the wake of the Mexican revolution, the Amish community decides this is their answer. And since it was Caleb's idea, he and his family will be the pioneers. They will send for the others once he's established a foothold and assessed the situation.

My Review:

Before this book, I wasn't a huge fan of Amish fiction. I liked to read them, but they weren't my favorite. Dale Cramer did a wonderful job writing "Paradise Valley." I didn't want to stop reading until the end! My family has moved a lot since I was younger, so I completely sympathized with the daughters during the move. While my moves were never this drastic, it was always hard to leave friends. When daughter Rachel found out she was leaving her first love, she was very upset. Another unmarried daughter feared she would never marry because they were leaving all of her potential 'mates'. This family showed how important it is to stick together in these hard times. When they were feeling down, another family member would be there for them. There were many dangers awaiting the family in Paradise Valley, but thanks to "Gott" (God) they found help when they needed it. I really enjoyed this book, and I can't wait to read more by this author!

The Lady of Bolton Hill

My Review

This book shows a women who knows her purpose in life and wants to follow God to get there. It was nice to read a book about a women "back in the day" going after what she wanted, no matter the cost (even getting thrown in jail). She also shows unmarried girls that you don't have to settle for a guy if he isn't what God wants you to have. Clara knew she couldn't marry Daniel if he didn't share her beliefs, and she told him as much. I really enjoyed reading this book. It isn't an extremely exciting thriller or anything, but it was definitely a good read complete with fights, theives, and plots to kill!

Ever since Sydney was a tiny baby she has slept in the car. At 2 1/2 years old, she STILL falls asleep in the car (she actually did today for an hour long drive)! She always looks so uncomfortable with her head slumped over in her seat, so I was glad to get to try this out. She wouldn't put it around her neck before she went to sleep (she still has the toddler "I'm not sleepy" thing going), but as soon as she went to sleep I reached around and put it behind her neck. She looked a lot more comfortable to me and she seemed to like it as well. These neckrests retail for about $13.

We also received a cute giraffe ID tag, which is awesome for kids bags! It's a cute fluffy giraffe with a small ID card that slides in. Definitely not readable from a distance, so I don't mind keeping it on the bag while Sydney wears it. It just looks like a fluffy "charm" for her bag. These retail for $6.

Dandelion Tableware

I recently received a set of Dandelion Tableware to try out, and I have to say I was very interested in trying it! Just so you know, Dandelion makes more than tableware - they make Earth-friendly products for kids - including plush toys, teethers, and clothes! You can see all of their products HERE.

Now, back to the tableware! The tableware is BPA free, Phthalate Free, PVC Free, and made from corn! "Unlike conventional plastic, which is largely made from petroleum, our bioplastic is primarily made from corn! Polylactic acid (PLA) requires significantly less fossil resources, and generates far fewer green house gases than conventional plastic. And corn is a renewable and sustainable resource (from the Dandelion website)." I love that they offer divided plates! My daughter doesn't seem to mind her foods touching, but I do haha so I love these! The spoons have a much deeper scoop than most which makes it easier for my daughter to keep foods on them! Sydney has mastered stabbing foods with a fork, so she doesn't use the Dandelion ones often (they are more for learning). These are great quality products, and I'm sure we will be using them for years to come!

The only downfall is that they aren't dishwasher safe, but knowing they are completely safe makes up for that!

Who doesn't love a cute applique shirt? I think they are great - especially for holidays or sibling pictures...or birthdays or pretty much anything! I found The Gathering Place awhile back through one of my readers. The ladies that own the store are very nice - and great to work with.

Promises to Keep

I recently received “Promises to Keep” by Ann Tatlock from Bethany House Publishers to review. Before I tell you what I thought, let me tell you a little about the book.

Only days after settling into their new home, they are surprised to find the previous owner, Tillie Monroe, on their front porch reading the newspaper. Though her sons have sold the house and sent her to a facility for the aged, she is determined to die in the place she lived her life and somehow manages to find her way "home" day after day. Feeling sympathy for the elderly woman, Roz's mother allows Tillie to move back in.
Mara Nightingale becomes Roz's first friend in Mills River. In spite of their many differences, the girls discover they have something in common that binds them together-both are hiding secrets. So they make a promise -"cross my heart and hope to die"-never to tell anyone else."

My Review

I thought this was a pretty good book. It was a little slow moving to me, but I tend to like the suspense-filled books the most. The story line was good, but I could sense the ending very early on. The early part of the book where the family meets Tillie was probably the best part of the book if you ask me. I'm pretty sure I'd have been a little shocked if a random old lady showed up on my porch one morning! If you don't mind the slow progression of the story, this is a good book to read, but if you're like me and like suspense - you may want to skip this one!

God Gave Us Two

I recently received "God Gave Us Two" by Lisa Tawn Bergren from Waterbrook Multnomah's Blogging for Books program. If you like to read and write reviews, you should check out their program (Blogging for Books).

I love all of the "God Gave Us" books. They are simple, but very sweet books for children. The illustrations are beautiful. My 2 year old likes to read them with me as well! If you remember, I did a review for God Gave Us So Much (see review HERE) not too long ago!

"God Gave Us Two" is about Mama and Papa polar bear having another baby. Little Cub is very curious about it, and asks a lot of questions like, "Will you forget me when the new baby comes?" Mama and Papa reassure Little Cub that they will love her AND the new baby and explain that they are gifts from God. Little Cub asks for a sister, but Papa tells her that she doesn't get to pick. They get a nice surprise at the end - a brother and a sister!

I thought this was a great book for siblings. It came at a perfect time for us - right before L.B. was born! I think Sydney enjoyed reading about getting a new baby. The only problem is that you might have to explain why you don't always get twins (and they aren't always a boy and a girl) haha. I guess that is where you have to explain that you can't pick! I'm very glad that we had this book for Sydney, and I plan to share it with other siblings that need help understanding a new baby!

A little about me!

I have really blogged much about me, so I thought I'd take a moment (or two..) to do that! I am a breastfeeding, cloth-diapering, baby wearing, soon-to-be homeschooling mom of 2 beautiful girls ages 2 years and 5 weeks. Don't worry - I'm not a mom that will try to pressure you into doing things my way..though I am always willing to answer any questions and help as much as I can.

With my first daughter, Sydney, I decided to breastfeed because it was the cheapest / healthiest way to go...and it helps moms lose weight faster! My older sister and my mom both did it, so I had a good support system ready to go! I asked for a sling for Christmas before my daughter was born - Brooke Burke made the Peanut Shell look so easy! I have loved it - with both daughters! I currently own 5 different slings, and I share them with other moms that are interested in baby wearing.

I love to shop with my mom - using my coupons, of course. I have gotten a lot of great deals that way! We canceled our cable because I didn't like most of the things that were available to watch...and I didn't want my kids bombarded with commercials. We have a Netflix account now, so my kids can watch only what I select (and no commercials) through our Wii. I would definitely suggest this for anyone trying to save money and limit what their kids watch. Sydney loves to watch Leapfrog and The Land Before Time movies!

I started cloth diapering when Sydney was around 1 year. I decided to try it mostly because of the money it saved. I had a friend that gave me a few diapers to try out, along with some helpful information on how to wash them, etc. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it might be! Since then, I have built my diaper stash by buying new diapers on clearance and buying used /new diapers from other moms, and also by doing reviews. I am proud to say I have never paid full price for a cloth diaper! Yes, I am cheap! I will do a more detailed post on cloth diapers later, so feel free to let me know any questions you would like answered!

I am planning to start Sydney's homeschooling this fall. She will be 2 1/2 and we will start working on simple tasks like using safety scissors, coloring in the lines, and other fun things. She loves to write, so I plan to start helping her write letters as well. We will not have "structured" classes or anything - just fun mother/daughter learning time during some of L.B.'s naps!

I do a variety of reviews on my blog - related to parents and children. Many of my reviews are for books because I LOVE to read (my reading time has shrunk since L.B. was born though). I especially like to work with WAHMs. I love helping other moms reach their goals and build their businesses. If you are a WAHM, feel free to message me about a review or giveaway or advertising, etc.

I guess that is a pretty good start to getting to know me! Feel free to ask me any questions that you would like. I will try to answer them as quickly and as best as I can.

My Review
Her prices are great! I couldn't believe some of them! Her adorable dresses are around $19.95! I'm very tempted to buy the one that matches L.B.'s blanket! The blankets are $29-$35. I bought the cute minky deer blanket because it matched our nursery perfectly. I had been looking around for awhile for a blanket to match the room, and I just wasn't happy with any I saw until I saw this one. Once I received it, I loved it even more! It is large enough to use even when she is a toddler, and it is softer than you could ever imagine! I wouldn't mind having one my size to be perfectly honest. Creative Expressions Review and Giveaway

I'm always on the look out for awesome WAHM (work at home mom) products! I love to help these moms promote their products as much as possible. Recently I came across Creative Expressions, which is a mom local to me that creates all kinds of goodies!

She made a really cute bow for my girls to share. I wanted to get a picture of them both wearing it, but Lakyn's head is still too tiny for our headbands! Sydney really likes the bow because it has circles on it...in all of her favorite colors! It is a very cute bow for summer time. It is very well made with a lined alligator clip (which is my personal favorite type right now). Sydney hasn't been able to destroy this bow yet...yes, she has taken bows apart before. Sorry - this isn't the best picture. My daughter has recently decided that she is anti-pictures! I would definitely recommend Creative Expressions to anyone that asks me. Customer service is a high priority on my list, and Buddy is definitely good with that!

Ok..so by now most of you know about the tornados in north Alabama. Places around us were hit VERY hard...many lost homes, family members, and some (like us) only lost power for several days. Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness month, and I was provided a book to review from Workman Publishing that is geared towards autistic kids! I apologize for posting this on the last day of the month, but due to childbirth and then power outages due to storms, I am just now getting to post it.

Workman Publishing has some great books for all ages! This time they provided me with a copy of "Point to Happy" by Miriam Smith and Afton Fraser. This is a very simple book geared towards kids on the autism spectrum. "Point to Happy" is a large board book that comes with its own pointer finger. The pointer helps implement the motor tasks of holding and pointing. The photographs in the book are large and simple. The sentences are short and easy to understand. If your child is a visual learner, then this book can definitely be a helpful tool!

When we received this book, Sydney was so excited! No, she isn't autistic, but she loves books and she enjoys trying to find the correct pictures that go with the sentences I'm reading. The pointer is very easy for her to use and seems to be very sturdy. After reading the book together a few times, she will "read" it to herself. She will say, "Which one is sad?" and then point to the boy that is sad and continue through the book. I think this book would be very helpful for any young kids. It shows pictures of daily activities like playing, sleeping, brushing teeth, and also emotions like sad, happy, mad, etc. I love that this is a large board book so that I don't have to worry about torn pages!

If you know of any parents or teachers that help teach autistic children, please tell them about this book so they can see if it would be of help in their situation!

My Review

I received a bottle of Skin MD Natural skin care to try for myself. I don't have any specific skin problems other than regular, irritating dry skin - especially during the winter. I love that this lotion is thick and it doesn't have a strong smell. I normally hate to use lotion for those reasons. This lotion absorbs into your skin very quickly. I did get a really bad sunburn right after receiving this lotion. I started putting this on it before and after it started peeling. It didn't prevent the peeling, but it sure made it feel better while it was healing! If you are looking for a lotion that works and doesn't feel so thick, this is definitely the lotion for you!

Captain Planet and the Planeteers: Season One DVD was released by Shout! Factory yesterday. Do any of you remember watching this as a kid? I know I do! Actually, when I told my older sister I was reviewing the DVD, she started singing the theme song (I have to admit, I didn't remember the song).

For those that don't know, the Planeteers work as a team and use their powers (Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart) to form the hero known as Captain Planet. Together, they try to prevent crimes against the planet and stop Eco-villains. The episodes include the voices of well-known actors/actresses such as Whoopi Goldberg, Meg Ryan, Sting and more! Shout! Factory even used Eco-friendly packaging. You can buy the DVD set HERE for $23.99 + S&H.

I enjoyed these cartoons. They aren't the extremely violent cartoons that I've noticed lately, and they actually help teach kids that the Earth is important and we should do our part to help protect it. Now, I'm not one to do things just because it's going to save the environment, but I think we shoulg be teaching our kids that we should do what we can. I would definitely be more willing to let my children watch these cartoons over many of the "super hero" shows on t.v.

The Bridge of Peace by Cindy Woodsmall

Do you like to blog about the books you read? If so, you should check out Blogging for Books. WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group provides you with free books in exchange for an honest review. So far, I have really liked the selection of books I've been given.

The most recent book I was given the chance to review was "The Bridge of Peace" by Cindy Woodsmall. Cindy is a New York Times best-selling author, who is known mostly for her connection with the Amish community. This connection allows her to write very true-to-life Amish novels. I was impressed with her attention to detail in this book!

"The Bridge of Peace" is a novel about a young Amish girl named Lena, who is a school teacher waiting on Mr. Right. She has dealt with a noticable birthmark on her cheek all her life, and at times feels like it is what is holding her back. In this novel, we see many different families, their joys and tragedies, and also how they come together to help each other in times of need.

I absolutely loved this book! I can't say enough about it. I couldn't put it down until I finished. I don't normally like the romantic-type novel, but this one had so much more in it than just romance. It showed the difficulties of Amish life, and how they deal with problems similar to our own, such as Lena's self-conciousness about her birthmark. As a school teacher, Lena has to deal with difficult students and parents - which I'm sure any teacher out there can relate to. Cindy Woodsmall is definitely a winning writer if you ask me. She includes so many details about the Amish traditions and way of life that really brings this book to life! I felt like I was almost there with Lena when I was reading! I would definitely recommend this book (and author) to anyone who reads for enjoyment!

Hevea Pacifier Review

There are so many recalled products out there today, that I am VERY hesitant when buying new baby products. Sometimes it seems like everything is dangerous in some way. This is making me think a lot about buying more natural products from reputable companies. Hevea is one company that has definitely impressed me!

About Hevea

Hevea, as a company is trying to be more sustainable by looking for ways to reduce, re-use, and recycle. Because of this, their products are packaged in cute little boxes made of recycled paper. The products are manufactured in Malaysia, but don't let that scare you - they have good communication with them to make sure the workers are well-paid and that their rights are respected.

Why choose Hevea?

Their accessories (such as the pacifier holders) are made of organic cotton and include a space on the back to write your baby's name. The pacifiers and teethers are made of 100% natural rubber, which is biodegradable. They are BPA, PVC, and phthalate free. They are stylish, one-piece pacifiers with no plastic pieces to them. They have no cracks or creases to hold bacteria. The pacifiers are ergonomically shaped to be gentle against your baby's skin.

My Review

I received the moon and star pacifier for my review, and I will say that I liked the packaging better than the usual pacifier packaging (though I don't normally buy things just because I like the package). These pacifiers and teethers are very cute and natural-looking. I really liked the fact that they are one-piece. That is hard to find in a pacifier these days (the only other one I can think of is a Soothie, and not all kids like those - mine didn't). I like that these come in an orthodonic nipple shape as well. Sydney didn't use a pacifier very often as a newborn, but as she got a little older and wanted one frequently, I preferred the orthodonic pacifiers simply because I was worried about the effect on her teeth. The Hevea pacifier is very soft rubber, which makes it easy for babies to grab and hold onto. Since it doesn't stay stiff like plastic does, it makes it much more comfortable for a baby to sleep with. These pacifiers are more expensive ($8.95 for 1) than others in stores, but to me it is with good reason! I like knowing that I am putting a safe product in my child's mouth.

Motherlove Review and Giveaway

When I started cloth diapering, I had no idea what I was doing! I'm pretty sure my husband and mom both thought I was a little crazy when I mentioned wanting to try it out (Sydney was about a year old). I just saying, "How hard can it be?" A friend of mine was a HUGE help in educating me on all things cloth and even gave me a few diapers to try (who wants to pay for something that they may hate?)

After I started cloth diapering, I started reading a TON of information online to help self-educate on more cloth diaper things so that I would do it "right" and buy the "right" diapers, etc. While researching, I realized that you aren't supposed to use diaper rash ointment with cloth diapers. Most of the time, it isn't needed (no chemicals in diapers + more frequent changes helps keep those nasty rashes away). However, every now and then it IS still needed. For awhile, I would put Sydney in a disposable with diaper ointment because I didn't really know what else to do. This worked, but I knew there had to be a better way! So, I started reading other mom comments about rashes and cloth diapers (I rely on the opinions of other moms a lot).

One day, I came across a blog giving away the Diaper Rash and Thrush salve from Motherlove. I entered, thinking I'm never lucky -but still hopeful. I was so excited when I won! Motherlove's Diaper Rash and Thrush salve is an all-natural herbal salve made from 96% certified organic ingredients. It is $9.95 for a 1 oz container. I know, the price sounds a little high, but it takes VERY little salve each use (plus if you cloth diaper, hopefully you won't need it too often). I can see that this will last us awhile, even with baby #2 on the way. I think my favorite part of Motherlove's salve is that there isn't a strong odor like with some diaper rash ointments. I've had to use this on Sydney a few times, and it usually clears up the rash over night. Every now and then it will take a day or 2 of use to clear them up. The container is small enough to toss in your diaper pouch or bag and keep with you in case you need it while out and about.

Motherlove offers some other products that I'm sure are equally as awesome - including items to help support breastfeeding. Oh, and I just have to say that their customer service is absolutely awesome. I had to use supplements to continue breastfeeding Sydney for an entire year, and I took Fenugreek capsules. They worked, but I felt like I took a million a day! I talked to one of Motherlove's support "moms" about the problem since baby #2 is due any time now, and she was a big help! She asked me a few questions to help me decide which product would be best to try. She was super nice and made me feel better about breastfeeding. If I end up having similar problems this time, I will definitely be contacting her and trying out the product she recommends.

I was recently given the chance to host a Nutella Party courtesy of MommyParties. I was so excited! I LOVE Nutella, and I was glad to be given the chance to let others try it as well. I was sent a huge box of awesome stuff (sample of Nutella, coffee mug, coupons, etc) to share with other moms.

I won an OnTray awhile back from a blog, and I have gotten so much use out of it that I just have to share it with you all! It's definitely a useful product for moms to have!

What is OnTray?

It is a patent-pending tray that can be clipped onto a grocery cart! It can be filled with snacks, coupons, crayons, or many other items! It has a slide on lid to keep things inside until you need them. OnTray is microwave and dishwasher safe (both a major plus for parents). OnTray is mom invented and manufactured in the USA. It comes in green, pink, yellow, and blue and retails for about $7.

My Review
I use this a lot (with and without Sydney)! If Sydney is with me, it is used to hold snacks for her to munch on while I shop, and if she isn't I use it told hold my grocery coupons. It is very easy to clip on - so far it's fit all the carts I've used without any problems. I'm sure some kids will be able to knock it off, but Sydney never has. I love that it has a lid and easily fits in a diaper bag or a purse. I think this is an awesome product! Very simple and straight-forward to use and clean. My Review

Obviously, I love Babylegs! Sydney has worn them since birth, and L.B. already has a good stash started so that she can wear them as soon as she gets here! When Sydney was younger, I was always getting compliments on her legwarmers, but no one had ever heard of them. I have introduced many, many moms to Babylegs and their usefulness (and cuteness). Babylegs made my life a lot easier, and I'm going to tell you how.

-They can be worn with onesies, t-shirts, or simply a diaper to keep your baby warm while keeping diaper changes super easy.

- During really cold weather I put Babylegs under Sydney's jeans for added warmth.

- During the crawling months, they prevent carpet burns!

- In summer months, they can provide light protection from the sun.

- As your child gets older, they can be used as armwarmers.

I can't say enough about how useful Babylegs are! Seriously, we love them! They look cute with dresses, onesies, and diapers! My Review

I love quotes...I have since I was in high school. Every notebook I owned was either covered in quotes, had quote stickers, or was a collection of quotes in itself. My 13 year old sister is much the same now. When I was contacted about the book "Dance First. Think Later." I was very excited! I knew that this would be an enjoyable book for both of us, and it has been! There are quotes by well-known people as well as some I had never heard of, but all of the quotes were great. I like to pick this book up when I'm having a frustrating moment and read a few random quotes. It never fails to make me laugh (usually at myself)! This would be a great gift book for any quote lover, graduate, newlywed, etc. These qoutes focus on things that everyone has faced or will face at some point in their life.

I'm sure we have all seen products made by Boon by now - they are those brightly colored, unique-looking products that always seem to have a useful purpose! When I was registering for baby showers when I was pregnant with Sydney, I remember seeing the Flo water deflector/spout cover and thinking it looked like a very neat product (more useful than the huge duck spout covers). We got it, and still use it! I love it - since it is a water deflector, it keeps the water in a soft flow - not as loud as a normal faucet. Plus, it doesn't look like a kids spout cover, which is a plus in my book! When I was offered another Boon item for review and giveaway, I was excited! I knew it would be perfect for the month of March and our Virtual Baby Shower!

Here are some of Boon, Inc.'s products that I think are awesome! The first is their "animal bag" which stores stuffed animals by making them into a chair for your kids! Sydney has several stuffed animals that she doesn't play with constantly and I can't wait to get one of these bags for them! Next, is the bug pod for the bath tub. These are great because they can easily scoop up toys in the tub, and then they hang and allow the toys to dry. Next, I think their potty chair is neat! No "bells and whistles" on this potty, but it does have a place for toilet paper so that your child can reach it easily. Sydney doesn't like noisy potty chairs (personally neither do I), so this one is right up our alley!

My Review

I was able to review the Fluid sippy cup by Boon, Inc. This sippy cup was created so that kids could hold onto it easily (and any way they want). It is spill-resistant, but not spill-proof. If held upside down, it will drip. That means that your child can actually drink out of it. Any spill-proof cups we've tried were pretty dificult to drink from, so I'm glad this one is only spill-resistant (just wanted to make that clear). It also has an angled spout so that your child doesn't have to tilt their head back as far to drink from it. It's dishwasher safe and only 2 pieces. It is super easy to clean and put together. Sydney LOVES this cup. She prefers to wear it as a bracelet while she drinks from it. It seems to be very easy for her to drink from and hold. I'm sure this cup would work well for younger kids as well. My only issue is that it doesn't fit into the cup holders on most of our diaper bags, but since it has kind of an odd shape, it stays sitting upright inside the diaper bag without any spilling issues.

My Baby's Green Cloth Diaper Review

Awhile back, My Baby's Green had a 50% off sale and I took that opportunity to try out their AIO cloth diapers, organic fitted diapers, and the Sweet Knee Bun Glaze. My Baby's Green is fully operated by a WAHM to three (ages 23 years, 17 years, and 17 months)! Her goal is to provide quality Eco-friendly, organic products to other parents. Her cloth diapers are made in the USA! The owner is very quick to respond to any questions about her products, which is great since I had a few questions about the diapers. On to my review...

AIO Cloth Diapers - Ok, these are better than AIO if you ask me. They can be stuffed like a pocket diaper, or you can just snap the insert to the diaper like an AIO. These diapers come with a bamboo/microfleece insert (which is super soft). These diapers have an adjustable rise which should fit babies from 10-35lbs. My 26 lb daughter uses them, and they fit great. This diaper does have velcro closures, but they overlap so that it fits even skinny kids like mine very well. If I use an extra insert with this diaper, it usually works overnight. Every now and then my daughter will leak through it at night time, but she is a heavy wetter. It works fine during the day, and is a pretty trim fitting cloth diaper. My hubby does have trouble getting this diaper on correctly. For some reason when he puts it on, the "wings" start drooping and if I don't fix it the diaper will leak. We have yet to figure out what he's doing wrong, but I don't have this problem (must be a guy thing haha). Diaper is being discontinued and is selling for under $9 now!

Organic Fitted Cloth Diaper - This diaper is being discontinued and is currently selling for $5.15 which is an awesome price! This diaper is made from cotton/fleece and is approximately size small/medium. It has soft elastic around the legs, and hook and loop (velcro) closure. This diaper fits Sydney and works great. The rise is a little short for her, but we haven't had any issues because of that. This was the first fitted diaper I ever bought, and I love the absorbancy of it. The velcro is extremely sticky on this diaper, and I plan to remove it this weekend so that I can use the diaper with a snappi. If you are looking to try fitteds, I would recommend getting a few of these since the price is amazing!

Sweet Knee Bun Glaze - I bought the Bun Glaze during the 50% off sale as well. I have been looking around for cloth diaper safe rash relief, and decided to try this one. Bun Glaze is a non-medicated alternative to diaper rash ointments. There are no "barrier-type" ingredients like petroleum, so the skin is able to breathe even when using this glaze. This is a VERY daddy-friendly glaze. You simply pump the glaze onto the area and you're done! No touching needed! This is also great is you have a sensitive child or a bad rash. Sydney had a prett bad rash a little while back and she didn't want to be touched, so this glaze was a miracle!

CJN Flowers and Primitives Review and Giveaway!

A little while back, I won a set of 8 snowmen crayons from CJN Flowers & Primitives. I thought they were really cute, but I wasn't sure how well they would go over with my 2 year old. So now that we have had time to try them out, I wanted to share my thoughts (and this neat Etsy store) with you all! This isn't actually something a "new" mom would need, but I'm including it - if you have an older sibling you will want these...you will also want these when your new baby is learning to color!

CJN Flowers and Primitives offers unique, handmade items such as beautiful jewelry and magnets, crochet hats, kids crayons, baby gifts, and more! I just love her necklaces! But, back to the crayon set I won! When I opened the package, Sydney was excited about the "no-men." She didn't realize they were crayons at first, but as soon as she did she started coloring with them. I actually love these crayons because I don't have to worry about them rolling all over the place. The 8 "main" colors are included - no need to give your young child 20 or 30 crayons at first! We keep these crayons in a small pouch so that we can carry them out with us. When we go out to eat, we don't have to chase crayons all over the table! The size of the crayon is a good size for young kids to be able to hold on to, but the drawback is that they are smaller than the normal crayon, so you need to watch and make sure your child isn't putting them in their mouth. Sydney has never tried to, but I'm always with her when she is coloring. I would recommend these crayons to any mom (or dad) out there who is tired of chasing crayons! These would make a great party favor, also!

My Review
I was very excited to review this book, especially since I have a curly haired neice and a mostly curly haired daughter. I was definitely not thinking about myself when I got the book, but once I started reading it - I realized that I needed it for myself as well! "Curly Girls" is a wonderfully simple guide to taking care of curly hair. I've always thought that curly hair was difficult or not as pretty (I grew up when straight hair was best), but after reading this book I realized that none of that is true. Curly hair can be pretty as well! This book also give help for those with frizzy hair - which is definitely the area I needed help with. "Curly Girls" describes the different types of curly hair and how to deal with each type. Oh, there is even an instructional DVD that goes along with the book.

The author is the founder and co-owner of Devachan, a group of salons specializing in curly hair. She is also the co-creator of DevaCurl products - but you wouldn't realize this by reading her book. She does not endorse her products throughout the book (which was impressive and wonderful if you ask me). I hate reading books that constantly tell you to ONLY use their products. She doesn't do that at all! If you have curly hair or a child with curly hair, this book will definitely help you out!

My Review
I was sent this awesome dump truck for my review. Yes, I do have a daughter, but she LOVES trucks and trains like any other kid! To be honest, sometimes I get tired of all the girly stuff! The dump truck arrived and was much bigger than I imagined! It is a good size for a toddler to push around and enjoy. My nephew finds this truck every time he visits my house. Sydney likes to fill the truck with necklaces, and my nephew fills it with blocks usually. This is a VERY sturdy toy truck (my nephew has sat in it several times even though I've tried to explain to him that he doesn't quite fit haha). It sells for about $24.99, which is comparable to similar toys I've seen in Target, and this one is environmentally friendly - with no worries of BPA or lead paint! This has been a huge hit with the little ones in my family.

The Juppy Baby Walker - Review and Giveaway

Typically parents tend to hold their babies by the hands or under the arms to teach them to walk. This causes stress and strain on the lower back of the parent and could cause injuries to the child's arms or joints. The Juppy is available in pink or blue, and comes in it's own carry case which is small enough to fit in any bag! It is recommended for babies age 7 - 13 months, and fits children up to 30 pounds. It is machine washable, which is a must for baby products (if you ask me).

My Review (with the help of other moms)
Since I was unable to be with the reviewers, I don't have pictures of the Juppy in use, but I am working on getting some! First off, The Juppy sells for $29.95, which is cheaper than the "normal" walker with wheels. Also, the walkers with wheels have been seen as unsafe for various reasons. A parent must be present while the Juppy is in use, which adds to its safety. As I stated before, washable is a must for baby products in my opinion and the Juppy is machine washable (air dry). The Juppy is small enough to take with you anywhere - great for trips to grandma's, etc. We had Walking Wings for Sydney when she was younger, and she enjoyed them, but she was a skinny baby and it doesn't have support other than the chest area, so she always seemed to slide down in it. The Juppy has a full panel around the baby and between their legs for added stability. I would prefer to see the Juppy in a more gender neutral color - I tend to buy more gender neutral so that I know it can be used with multiple children.

My 2 tiny reviewers were Kylee - 11 months old and Lilly - 10 Months old (and their parents, of course). It was an enjoyable product to try and the girls seemed to like it. The main drawback was that for some moms the straps were not long enough so they still ended up leaning over a little (the mom was about 5'6). The great thing about the Juppy is that it is one size fits all babies - no adjusting velcro, just put the baby in, take the baby out, very simple. The Juppy seems to be made similar to some doorway jumpers, so if you have a child that loves the doorway jumper and is ready to learn to walk, then the Juppy should be very helpful to you!

The Me Project - Book Review

I received "The Me Project" by Kathi Lipp from Harvest House Publishers to review. After reading a little about this book, I was excited to be able to read it for myself! Kathi Lipp is a conference and retreat speaker, who has also written "The Husband Project" and "The Marriage Project." After reading "The Me Project," I really want to read these other two books!

A little about "The Me Project: 21 Days to Living the Life You've Always Wanted" by Kathi Lipp
"The Me Project" gives you creative, but doable steps every day to help you begin to live out the dreams that God has given you. Don't worry - this isn't a bland instruction book! Kathi adds in her own stories and humor throughout the book to keep you entertained and motivated. She helps you learn to set aside time from your busy schedule to be yourself and accomplish your dreams. Many moms feel that they can no longer have dreams of their own because they need to help their children accomplish theirs - Kathi is here to help you learn how this way of thinking doesn't really work. You need to have dreams, and you need to work toward accomplishing them!

In "The Me Project: 21 Days to Living the Life You've Always Wanted" you will learn how to:
- discover the plan God has for your life
- connect with a group of like-minded women ready to make their goals a priority
- change your attitude toward roles in life

My Review
I enjoyed this book a lot, but I think it will take me more than 21 days to accomplish all that is in this book! I have always had a "plan" for my life for as long as I can remember, but I always make small plans so that I knw I can accomplish them. I have never really made any huge goals to accomplish (aside from graduating college and getting married, which turned out to be easy thanks to prayer haha). "The Me Project" has several short chapters, the first section of chapters focuses on creating your goal list, how to get started, and finding an accountability group - these are the basics, but are VERY important to staying on track! After the first section, you get to the activities! There are 3 weeks of projects to do (one each day). These activities are simple, but very helpful. Example - one of the activities is embracing your past. You have to write down one mistake from the past and the lessons you learned from it.

I think this book is very helpful for anyone, but especially for those moms who have gotten so lost in the lives of their families that they forgot their own dreams. Now, I'm not saying those moms should run away or ignore their families, but it can be very helpful to get back out there and "find" yourself again! I know after Sydney was born and I started staying home with her, I got wrapped up in her life and forgot all of the things I loved to do. I've since joined storytime, made new friends at church, and started this blog!

My Review

I was really excited to try one of the fleece soakers from Zizzies and Izzies. I've never tried a fleece soaker, but I knew if it worked like others said then it would be great for those early potty training days...you know, when your kid still has a few accidents. Zizzies and Izzies offers very cute fabrics for fleece soakers (you should definitely check them out). Not only did Shelly send a fleece soaker to try, but she sent a unique hair clip, a few cloth wipes, and the most adorable hat! The wipes were wonderful - they worked great, just as a cloth wipe should. We weren't really able to try the clip out since my daughter has very little hair, but I assure you it is adorable and well-made and I can't wait until she can wear it!

My favorite items sent were the hat and the fleece soaker! The hat is a unique hat, and has gotten my daughter a TON of compliments! It is a beautiful yellow and white fabric that is absolutely perfect for springtime! My daughter likes wearing it, and I like to show it off! It's not an overly girly hat (which I think my hubby appreciates - he gets tired of all the frilly girl stuff sometimes). This has been his go-to hat to put on Sydney lately. The fit of the hat is great (I sent in measurements of her head). It is very well made (I don't have to worry about my daughter trying to tear it up like some crochet hats...she has a tendency to stick her fingers in the holes for fun). Anyways..I just LOVE the hat!

On to the fleece soaker...when I saw the cute flower print I loved it, but at the same time I was wondering if these really work as diaper covers. I couldn't imagine this working as well as an AIO cloth diaper. I know, I expect the worst sometimes, but I have a heavy wetter! My daughter was excited about the soaker..she calls it her big girl panties, and I think it has helped to encourage her to use the potty more honestly. I put a fitted and the fleece soaker on her one day at naptime to really test it...and she didn't leak through at all. I was amazed! We aren't really potty training yet, but Sydney will use the potty some. The fleece soaker helps to teach her to pull her "big girl panites" up and down. She likes being able to help put them on and take them off. I think the fleece soakers would be helpful for any age (over fitteds especially), but I'm excited to use them for the early days of potty training to help prevent major accidents all over the house!

As most of you know, I started cloth diapering Sydney about a year ago and I have not regretted it. My only problem has been finding a diaper that works over night. Up until the last month we were still using disposables at night time!! I read what a lot of moms used overnight for their heavy-wetters, but it all sounded SO complicated (you know- I use 1 insert, 1 prefold, and a {name brand} cover). My husband has been wonderful with cloth diapering, but I'm pretty sure he would get frustrated with those kind of instructions. About a month ago I started using a WAHM diaper overnight with 2 thick inserts, but the diaper was pretty bulky (it has continued to work overnight - most nights). So what does all of this have to do with my review? Well, I have found a diaper that is easy, not bulky, AND has worked overnight (without fail thus far)!

My Review
Go Go Natural sent me a DinkleDooz diaper to review - in pink for my little princess! DinkleDooz diapers are one-size (should fit from about 8lbs-35lbs) pocket diapers. Each diaper comes with a small and large microfiber insert. I normally prefer velcro on my diapers because it gives a better fit for skinny kids, and the DinkleDooz has snaps...a lot of them. When I put this diaper on for the first time, I was impressed with the fit! It has snaps for 3 different rises, so the snaps look a little overwhelming at first. Once you start snapping it on, you will realize how easy it is! The snaps are AWESOME! They even included snaps at the hip area which is very helpful for the skinny kids. I've read a few reviews that said dads didn't like all of the snaps on this diaper, but my hubby hasn't had any trouble with the snaps at all!

This diaper can be machine washed and dried, but I always air-dry my covers. Which leads me to another point - this diaper dries amazingly fast! I swear within 10-15 minutes of being hung, it's dry! This is my go to diaper for overnight use now (actually, I ordered 2 more this week)! With the large and small inserts, my daughter has not leaked in this one yet! She even had a juice box (apple juice) 15 minutes before bed one night (for pooping problems lol) and she didn't even leak that night! I have failed to take pictures of this diaper on my daughter, but I promise to put it on her in the morning and take some pictures to share!

A look at all of the snaps. There are several, but once you start folding the diaper closed, it's easy to see where they go.

DinkleDooz on top, BumGenious 3.0 on bottom...not much difference in thickness, but the BumGenious doesn't come close to working overnight for us.

Lady Lullaby - "Midnight Lullaby"

Jane Roman Pittis a folk singer who has a 40-year legacy in the folk music world. She is a mother and a grandmother herself. Her album was created to be a soothing collection of songs for mommy and baby!

My Review

As a mom, I get tired of listening to some of Sydney's lullaby CD's, but I usually tolerate them if she likes them (especially on long trips in the car). I definitely prefer the modern day lullaby CD's made with parents in mind over the kids only lullaby CDs. We have a few modern day lullaby CDs (You may remember my review awhile back for Cradle Rock CDs). I enjoy those, but I have often wished that they had words with the music so that I could easily sing along (I have a habit of forgetting words). So I was very glad to see-well, hear- that "Midnight Lullaby" had words with the music! I'll be honest, I did recognize many of the songwriters, but very few of the songs themselves so I still can't sing along. But I have a feeling I'll be singing along soon enough with baby #2 on the way! Jane's vocals, along with the musicians, definitely creates a soothing atmosphere for going to sleep!

Can building blocks be educational?

I was contacted awhile back by Scott, from Smart Blocks, Inc. about reviewing a new educational toy. Since I am planning to homeschool Sydney, I thought this would be a great start to helping her learn in a fun environment.

About Smarcks Smart Blocks
Smarcks Smart Blocks is a set of building blocks, much like the Lego Duplo blocks in size and shape, but completely different! These blocks combine your child's love of building with learning things such as colors, counting, spelling, music, and even math! The complete set, which we were able to try, consists of 70 non-talking blocks and 19 talking blocks. The starter set includes the 70 non-talking blocks and the talking Blue Color Block. The other talking blocks are sold in sets of 3. You can view the sets HERE.

Starting at age 1, you can use the talking Color Blocks to teach about colors and good manners by using statements such as, "I am a block that’s green, and I am never mean.” You can use your judgement as to when your child is ready to start learning the next set all the way up to the Math Blocks which helps your child learn to add and subtract. My Review
Scott has been extremely helpful with my review, from giving me updates on how his kids are using the blocks to sharing the link to the new blog. I felt very confident about this product from the start. I could tell that this product was created especially for kids enjoyment and learning. I like toys with a purpose! Sydney started to enjoy blocks around the same time as Scott contacted me, so I was pretty sure this would be a hit with her. I was right! As soon as we opened the box, she was ready to build. We played with all of the sets, but her favorite set is definitely the Music and Dancing Lights set. She loves to see if she can make them sing and light up. Now that you know how great Sydney thinks these blocks are, I'll tell you my thoughts on them!

After opening the blocks, my first thought (as a cheap, uh frugal mom) was that these were probably VERY expensive. So I got on the website to check it out. The starter set is only $29.95, which is very reasonable if you ask me. The 6 talking block sets cost $19.95 each, which seems a little expensive, but you definitely don't have to buy them all at the same time...and you can always add them to your child's birthday or Christmas wish list! After I realized that the prices weren't bad, I started reading more and more about the talking blocks. You definitely have to read the instructions with the talking blocks in order to help your child learn how to use them. I really like the idea behind these blocks, and I can't wait to help teach Sydney more with them; however, if you are a parent that doesn't want to take the time to "learn" about the blocks first - this is probably not a product for you. Yes, your child can build with them and get the talking blocks to make sounds, but they won't get the full learning experience without your help! I will admit that I have been a little frustrated with the blocks at times, but after I go back and refresh my memory on how each set works, I realize that I was missing something. Honestly, Sydney does better with some of them than I do!

Overall, this is a great product! The price is reasonable, and it can be a great help in teaching your child. I just want you to be forewarned that you as a parent will have to do some learning with your child on this one...which I don't think is a bad thing. Biddy Belly for Tummy Time

Biddy Belly

The Biddy Belly was developed by Robin Tacchetti, a Physical Therapist who is also a mother of three. The idea came to her after observing all three of her babies struggle with Tummy Time. Being a Physical Therapist, she knew how important Tummy Time was for muscle development. However, she was unable to keep her babies from getting frustrated and crying when they were in the prone position.

Despite Robin's repeated attempts to turn the babies on their bellies, all three of her children developed flat spots on the back of their heads. She knew there had to be a better way to develop their muscles and reach their gross motor milestones within the normal time frame. She put her physical therapy and Mom knowledge together along with consultations from pediatricians and the "Biddy Belly" was born!

Marie and Madelyn's Review

Overall the Biddy Belly seemed like a fun product. It was really nice to be able to attach toys to the giraffe's head because Madelyn always pushes the toy out of reach. It was also nice that you can change them out so they don't get bored playing with the same thing. The other thing that we liked was that it did help her learn to put more weight on her hands.

The main con to it is that it does not allow them to practice rolling since they are on an incline and there are the "guardrails," but that isn't the intention of the Biddy Belly - it is to help them master pushing up. The mirror under the giraffe's head was hidden by the giraffe's head a lot of the time, so Madelyn didn't really get to enjoy it much. Also, there are toys in the giraffe's ears can't be reached by the baby, but do allow the parents to play with them and get their attention.

(*Note from Heather - Once your baby has mastered pushing themselves up, you should put them on flat surfaces more often to let them practice rolling.)

"We love the biddy belly tummy time mat. We had tried other tummy time mats but our son did not like them. He would get easily frustrated on them because he was bored or could not completely push himself up. He loves the biddy belly because the mirror keeps him entertained. He is also able to use his arms to completely push himself up so he does not get so easily frustrated. My two year old also loves to play with the biddy belly and tells everyone it is her giraffe".

A few points from me...of course :)

The Biddy Belly costs $39.99, which seems a little pricey to me, but I decided to look into prices and most flat tummy time mats were between $17 and $40 as well. I guess I'm just cheap (I did get most of Sydney's stuff as hand-me-downs from my sister)!

I REALLY like that the cover can be taken off and machine washed. Sydney had reflux when she was little, so washable was a must! I like that the product was created by a Physical Therapist mom who put a lot of thought into tummy time! For most babies, tummy time is not enjoyable at first. The Biddy Belly helps them learn to push themselves up better than flat mats because it puts their arms in the "ready position" to do so!

I did want to mention the mirror on the Biddy Belly. If ou look at it as a mirror, you might be disappointed, but it isn't supposed to be an actual mirror. It is reflective material to give your baby something extra to look at. True mirrors need hard backings, which you wouldn't really want on this product. Who would want their baby playing on something hard?

Also, Robin was very helpful through the whole process! If you buy a Biddy Belly and have any problems or questions, I'm sure she would be more than happy to try to help you!

Rockin' Green - An Update

A lot of you read my post about Rockin' Green Cloth Diaper and Laundry Detergent at the beginning of January (see HERE if you missed it). My review was not very favorable, and Rockin' Green contacted me to see if they could send me a different type of the Rockin' Green to see if it helped. Of course I agreed. If a company is willing to help me find a different scent/type that may be better, I am more than glad to let them try to prove me wrong in my initial opinion! I am not here to be biased, but to try products and tell my readers about them. I try to be as honest as possible in my reviews (without being rude). So...How did Rockin' Green do this time?

For the first review, I received the "Rage Against the Rasperries" scent in the Classic Rock formula, but for this review they sent the "Bare Naked Babies" (the unscented formula) in Classic Rock and in Soft Rock. After my problems last time, I only washed a few diapers the first time with the Classic Rock formula, and I didn't have any of the problems as I did before! No rashes, no bad smells! So the next time I washed a normal load of diapers (as soon as I put in the detergent I was a little worried that I should have done another small load)...but again no rashes, no bad smells! I also used the Soft rock formula twice as well and have still had no problems like before! It did still clean the diapers really well!

So, I'm guessing my daughters rashes had something to do with the scented formulas. I have almost always used Free & Clear detergent with her, so I didn't know that she would have issues with fragrances. I still don't know why the diapers smelled so bad after being soiled on my first few tries with Rockin' Green - I may never know, but I do know that it did not happen after 4 loads of diapers this time!

I would like to say that Rockin' Green impressed me with their customer service and willingness to help me find a formula that worked for me. There aren't many companies out there that still try to make the customer happy! I do recommend buying some sample packs before you buy a huge pack of detergent - you know, just in case you have my troubles and don't know it!

Sammy, the Little Broken Shell by Carol Hamblet Adams

“Sammy, the Little Broken Shell” was written by Carol Hamblet Adams and Illustrated by Linda Clearwater. This is a longer book, suitable for ages 4 and up I would think (unless you just have a patient toddler that loves stories). In the book, Sammy the seashell, shows how good he is at sports and how many friends he has. One day he gets his shell broken saving his sister, and all but one of his friends makes fun of him. He later proves that his broken shell made him who he was and made him able to help someone else in need.

I thought this was a very cute book about how important it is to be yourself, and also teaches kids that it hurts others’ feelings if we make fun of them. The book includes some easy discussion questions at the end so that you can get your child talking about the situation and how they would have handled it. It is a great way to start talking to your child about bullying! We all know it happens, but many of us have trouble knowing how to discuss it with our kids. This book can definitely help with that! The pictures in the book are very colorful. Sydney loves to look at the book, but isn’t patient enough for the full story yet. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with a young child!

Well, actually it was February madness thanks to our internet provider. Open Range decided to re-organize their towers so that our internet box HAD to be in our nursery to work. And we don't have Wi-Fi on our main computer and my laptop needs a new battery, so we were just out-of-luck according to them. (Thanks for the help, right? haha)..Well, we ended up calling Charter and using them again, even though I said I'd never go back when we cancelled a couple of years ago! Charter is still very much annoying - if you call, you can't get the same deals as online, but if you sign up online they won't waive the installation fee (they had nothing to install at my house, my husband does IT work and prefers to do it himself). The Charter installation guy showed up AN HOUR early...which normally would have been fine, but the dogs were still loose in the house and Sydney was asleep. All of the barking woke her up, which made me a not-so-happy pregnant mommy, but at least we finally have internet!

Virtual Baby Shower: What Every Mom Wants

As most of you know (but may have forgotten haha), I'm pregnant with daughter #2! Since I'm due April 17th, I decided to do something special for the month of March!! I'm going to do a "Virtual Baby Shower" and focus on reviewing items that new moms need (or want). I thought this would be a great time to focus on the little babies! As always, not everyone will agree with my opinions, so feel free to add your comments and experiences as well! When I was a new mom, I was always glad to read helpful reviews and the comments from other moms. Who is Emily McMurry?

The basic stuff: I first met Heather and Dave McAlistser when my husband, Brandon, and I began attending Epic Church. (Dave and I are in the worship band together) As we were sitting around talking about photography one day, Dave asked if I would like to begin working for them as an editor. Of course I accepted!!!! Shortly after, I was asked to take over their division of Little Life Portraits. I LOVE MY JOB!

The not-so basic stuff: I'm an explorer and a lover of life. Period. Photography fuels something very deep within me. I strive to tell peoples stories with authenticity and my own unique perspective. I think these are some of the sweetest kid’s books I’ve read. I love that each book focuses on something God gave us. These books can help kids understand a little more about God, and also feel important because God wants to give them these things. The illustrations in this book are very colorful, and Sydney loved looking at the polar bears on each page. Each book is short enough to read before bed, and I personally think these stories make great bedtime stories!

My Review

Skoy Cloth is VERY easy to use. All you have to do is wet the cloth, squeeze it out and start wiping down your hard surfaces! Skoy cloth is safe to use with household cleaners, but really does seem to work just as well with water. When it needs cleaning, it can go in your dishwasher or can be washed/dried. How easy is that? And if you're like me and worried about sponges, clothes and the germs they attract...you can put a wet Skoy cloth in the microwave for 1-2 minutes to help get rid of germs! According to Skoycloth.com, one Skoy cloth can save 15 rolls of paper towels (that can definitely save some money)!! A 4-pack of Skoy cloth only costs about $6.99 , which isn't bad - that saves about 60 rolls of paper towels!!! I'm pretty sure you can beat that even when paper towels are on sale!

“Eleanor the Hippo Learns to Tell the Truth” by Andy McGuire is a book about telling the truth. It is a short book with good rhymes that is sure to keep any child’s attention! In the book, Eleanor goes around telling made up stories to different animals in her village, until one day she realizes that her lies hurt someone else’s feelings.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was short enough to keep my 2 year old’s attention (which says a LOT), and I’ve always enjoyed books that rhyme. The book is very simple to understand, and can definitely help you teach your child that lying can be hurtful to others, even if it seems like a silly lie. The illustrations in this book are good, as well. The animals look like real animals and are beautifully drawn. I can’t wait to read “Remy the Rhino Learns Patience” by Andy McGuire! I think we need it right now to help Sydney learn patience!

Voices of the Faithful Book 2 - A book review

I received "Voices of the Faithful - Book 2" from Booksneeze. This book is a compilation of inspiring stories of courage, compiled by Kim P. Davis. The introduction was written by Beth Moore, who is one of my favorite Christian writers/speakers. There are devotions for every day of the year. The devotions are short enough that even the busiest of moms can read these! They could easily be read and pondered on a lunchj break or first thing in the morning. I prefer to read inspirational stories first thing in the morning. It helps me get through the day to see that people have gotten through much worse and made it through their day!

There are stories of children, worried parents, anxious teens, and curious seniors that are all searching for the Good news. Some of the stories show moments of danger and heartache, and some show hope and miracles. No matter the situation, all of these stories are written to inspire, and that is exactly what they do!

A Rose Revealed - Book Review

I recently received a few books to review from Harvest House Publishers, but I'm only going to review them one at a time so that I don't overwhelm you with books! I'm from a family that absolutely loves books...and I could read and write reviews on books all day long...but I'm pretty sure you all appreciate it when I mix it up a little!

A Rose Revealed by Gayle Roper
"A Rose Revealed" is part of The Amish Farm Trilogy ("A Stranger's Wish" and "A Secret Identity" are the other books in the trilogy). "A Rose Revealed" starts out following the life of Rose Martin, who became a nurse because she wanted to help people. She knew that part of her job included death, but she never realized she would be dealing with a murder case, especially not one so close to her. Rose gets drawn into the murder case, and has to hide, and she finds the perfect hiding place on the Zook's farm with the Amish Zook family. She finds the loving family she has always wanted there, except for Jake, who seems to resent her no matter what she does.

My Review
I haven't read the first 2 books, but that didn't make this one any less enjoyable. I absolutely loved reading this book. The story line was great, and not as predictable as most mystery books. I thought the ending was great as well. Reading this book has made me want to go back and read the first 2 books in the trilogy. I like romance novels, but they aren't my favorite, but mix it with a good mystery and it is very enjoyable! The book is set in Lancaster County, and the author pays great attention to detail when it comes to the lives of the Amish.

Little Ruler, founded in September 2004 by ‘80s skateboard legend Jeff Kendall and his wife Maureen, was inspired in part by Jeff’s former profession and in part by the birth of their two sons: Cole (now 5) and Parker (3). “Until we had Cole, I had no idea just how hard it would be to find cool clothes for kids,” admits Jeff, who says nothing about how uncool it is to spit up on dad when he’s feeding you strained carrots.

Luckily, with Jeff’s senior marketing position with NHS, a Northern California skateboard, snowboard and surfboard manufacturer, he was able to custom-print some one-pieces and junior t-shirts with cool brand logos. Maureen recalls, “When our kids wore this stuff, the reactions from people made us realize that skaters and skate fans of our generation may have become parents, but they haven’t lost their passion. So we founded Little Ruler to share that passion with the little ones in their lives.”

Jeff Kendall grew up in Indianapolis, where he discovered and embraced skateboarding in 1978. Seeing more opportunity for growth and travel among the Northern California skate community, he made the decision to ride for Santa Cruz (NHS) in 1985 and turned pro soon thereafter, competing on the circuit until 1992. Among numerous awards, he earned second place in his first pro contest in Southern California and was ranked third in the world in 1989. Seen in the classic skate films Wheels of Fire (1987) and Streets on Fire (1989), Kendall has remained in the skate world as team manager for Santa Cruz Skateboards and senior marketing director at NHS.In July 2007, he was promoted to Vice President of NHS,Inc.

Maureen Kendall, a native of the San Francisco area, grew up in nearby Almaden (San Jose). She graduated from San Jose State University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Organizational Psychology and going on to bring her corporate skills to Netscape and a variety of startups as a human resources consultant. Maureen met Jeff Kendall in 1996 and soon after entered a new career, motherhood, before co-founding Little Ruler in 2004.

Aden + Anais - Swaddle Love Book Review

If you haven't noticed yet, I love books. In fact, my entire family loves books - so I was excited to be offered another book to read. Aden + Anais offered me "Swaddle Love" by Raegan Moya-Jones, and since I have a little one on the way I was very excited! We swaddled Sydney when she was a baby, but mostly because my older sister (who has 2 kids) said it was best and I trusted her. After reading this book I'm glad I listened!

"Swaddle Love" is an entertaining and practical guide that includes personal stories - humorous and heartfelt. It also explains the history, science, and different techniques of swaddling. "Swaddle Love" was written by an Aussie emigrant and anxious mother-to-be (if you've been pregnant, you've been anxious, right?). Raegan discusses the successes and challenges, good times and bad, of motherhood. Realizing the importance of swaddling, she has become a major advocate for reviving this ancient practice. This book tells why.

I have really enjoyed reading this book! As I said earlier, I swaddled Sydney mainly because it worked for my sister's kids, and I trusted that she knew what she was talking about! After reading this book, I understand a lot more about why she swaddled. Swaddling creates the secure feeling of being back in the womb, and babies need that feeling sometimes! I remember a lot of people questioned my sister and I about why we wrapped our babies up like little burritos. Most people seemed to think that babies shouldn't be wrapped like that - that the baby would want to be free to flail around. Raegan discusses why people began to think this way about swaddling. Several different races/countries used some types of swaddling to change babies - such as, to "bind" them and straighten their backs. This is not the case with modern swaddling! I love that she includes lots of pictures and even swaddling instructions in the book.

Oh, if you think new moms don't have much reading time - you're right, and Raegan knows it! She made this book short - with short chapters - so that even a new mom can squeeze in time to read this one!

Ok, by now most of you must have heard of CSN stores, right? If not, keep reading! If you have...you should still keep reading! CSN has over 200 different stores you can shop from with items varying from an Eames lounge chair to Bumkins cloth diapers and even Diaper Dude diaper bags (ok they have a lot more, including my favorite section - the organization supplies).

Seriously, if you need it - they will probably have it! I could (and have) spent hours looking at things on their website. They have so much to choose from! In fact, I ordered a Christmas gift for my nephew and a birthday gift for my daughter back in December. It was very easy to order through CSN, and my orders arrived when they were supposed to with no glitches! I was very happy with their products as well. Everything was just as stated on the website.

When looking for a gift, be sure to check out CSN - they have some unique items (which is why I ordered for my nephew and daughter from CSN - the kids have everything already, so I was struggling to find something unique that wouldn't break the bank).

Mommy Time Designs Review and Giveaway

First off, I have to say Happy 2nd Birthday to my baby, Sydney! She's growing up so fast - it's amazing! She is preparing to be a big sister soon, and I have to say that I think she is going to be an excellent one! I have to thank Mommy Time Designs, Marsha Barton Photography, and our own Meme (Sydney's grandmother) for making her 2nd birthday a VERY special one!

Sydney wanted a My Little Pony birthday party, so we tried to make it as special as we could for her! My mom made the cake for her, and let me just say that it looked great and Sydney loved it!

Ok, so on to the actual review...

(though I'm sure you don't mind the extra pictures, right?)

After picking the theme, I knew Sydney needed a special shirt to wear for her birthday, and the first person that came to mind was Michelle, owner of Mommy Time Designs. She has some amazingly cute birthday sets (among MANY other items). I decided not to put Sydney in a tutu for her party because I expected her to run around and act crazy, so I emailed Michelle to see if she had any My Little Pony designs for shirts. She got back with me super quick and shared some designs. After I picked one, she did her best to make the pony look like Rainbow Dash (Sydney's favorite)...I think she did an amazing job! She even put a "2" on the pony! Later, while browsing the other items at Mommy Time Designs, I saw a cute Tutu Puff bow, and I asked if she could do one to match the shirt...and she did! I have to say the shirt and bow looked GREAT together, don't you think? I love that Mommy Time Designs is local for me, but don't worry she ships items, too.

One of my other favorite items from Mommy Time Designs is her wreaths! As soon as I saw these, I told my mom that L.B. NEEDS one to go on the hospital door when she is born (it will later become a bow holder). These are gorgeous, don't you agree? This is the one she made for L.B...and I can't wait to hang it on the hospital door. Seriously, I could go on for days about how nice and helpful Michelle is...actually, at Sydney's birthday I found out that TWO other girls had birthday outfits from Mommy Time Designs and they both spoke very highly of her as well! She has many, many happy customers all over (just look at her facebook page and you'll see all of the wonderful comments)!

My Review
Now that you know the important things about Yo Toddler, let me tell you what I think...or better yet, what Sydney thinks! Sydney LOVES yogurt, but not all yogurt is created equal in her eyes. She can't read, but she definitely knows if she likes the taste or not. She especially likes yogurt with fruit in it, and she does not like the "kids" yogurt that tastes like candy and is extremely sweet. Weird, I know. Yo Toddler comes in strawberry banana and apple flavor (but our store doesn't carry the apple flavor). I wish they had more flavors to choose from, but luckily Sydney likes strawberries AND bananas. I realized really quickly that this yogurt is easiest if you pour it in a bowl so that you can mix it up. I tried it and I liked the taste, but I'm not really the important one here, am I? Sydney absolutely LOVES this yogurt. She asks for it pretty much every day and will eat the entire container (pretty quickly, I might add). As a mom, it makes me feel better that this yogurt is VERY good for her and is organic. Somewhere, when Sydney was born, I read that if you are going to buy one item organic you should make it milk because it makes the biggest difference. I will confess that I don't buy all organic products, but Sydney drinks organic milk most of the time, and since yogurt is in the milk family (as far as I'm concerned) I like to know that there is an organic option there as well.

My Review

When I first opened The Highchair Organizer, I was surprised at how thick the fabric was. This is definitely a sturdy product! It is a little stiff at first, but after you use it some, it gets a little better. I understand that it needs this to be effective at holding multiple items, though. I do wish it came in more parent-friendly colors (maybe simple solid colors?), but the designs are cute. We have a "normal" highchair we use at my moms house, but only the space saver chair at our house currently, so I was curious if it would attach to our chairs to use. I was able to attach it to the back of our chair, and since the straps are adjustable I just tightened them as much as possible. It worked just fine (I'll add a picture at the bottom of my review)! I thought of another use for this product as well...if you travel a lot you may thank me! It will attach to the back of a car seat (not your child's carseat, but the back of the seat you are sitting in). I will probably use it for this frequesntly after Lakyn is born! If you travel, you know how nice it is to be able to keep pacifiers, cups, snacks, diapers, wipes, etc. all within reach and this can most definitely help with that!

Coobie Bra - Review

Awhile back, The Coobie Store ran a Facebook referral contest - if you referred so many friends, they sent you a free bra. I thought it was a good try, so I did it...and they followed through and sent out the Coobie bra! I am always in need of a new bra, and I hate paying high prices for them (yes, I am cheap, even in this area)! With the free bra, they sent a coupon for $15 off of any 2 Coobie bras. Since they are $20 each, this was almost a BOGO coupon!! I was sent an orange color Coobie...not my favorite color, but it was free so I'm not complaining!

When I first saw the bra, I was very skeptical. It is pretty thin (with pad inserts) and has no wire. I'm 30 weeks pregnant, and I was pretty positive there was no way that this would hold up the girls. Not to mention the fact that the bra is supposed to fit anyone size 32A to 36D! Sounds like a bra for a preteen, right? That's what I was thinking, but I tried it anyways!

The first thing I noticed was that it came with 2 sets of straps - clear and the color to match the bra. I am a HUGE fan of clear straps in the summer! When I put this bra on, I was AMAZED at how comfortable it was! It's like wearing your favorite old t-shirt! Seriously! I wore it ALL day, and it held up as well as any of my wired bras. It may be thin, but the removable pads are great. I'm always paranoid about "headlights" showing (you know what I mean!), but I don't have that problem at all with the Coobie bra. The size was also great. When you are pregnant, you tend to fluctuate in size throughout your pregnancy...with this bra, no need to buy a new one when your size changes - how great is that?

I loved the Coobie bra so much that I sent it home with my mom to try. Guess what? She loved it, too! We ended up ordering 2 with the discount code (1 for me, 1 for her)...and then a week later she decided to order 2 more and let her teenage daughter try it out as well. My mom actually even wore it to workout in, and she said that it held the girls just fine while she worked out. I've washed/dried mine several times and it has still held up perfectly!

So, if you're in the market for a new bra, you may want to order a Coobie! I know, this sounds like a paid message, but it isn't! All of the opinions are my own (and my moms), we just happen to REALLY love this bra!
